Conveyor Cleaning Brushes: Food-Grade PA6.12 vs PA6.6 and How to Spec Them

Buying guide · 5 min read · updated 2026-06-26

A cylinder brush that keeps a conveyor belt clean prevents product carry-over, jams and contamination. The main decisions are the nylon grade, the construction, and the roller dimensions.

Food-grade PA6.12 vs standard PA6.6

Both are nylons, but they suit different lines:

PA6.6 (standard)PA6.12 (FDA food grade)
UseGeneral industrial conveyors, parts handlingFood, produce washing, hygienic lines
MoistureAbsorbs more — slight stiffness change when wetLow moisture absorption — stable wet
ComplianceIndustrialFDA-compliant materials

Construction: staple-set vs spiral-wound

  • Staple-set — tufts set into a core; dense, even coverage for general cleaning.
  • Spiral-wound — filament wound in a helix around the core; clears debris sideways and is easy to make in long lengths.

Spec the roller

Fix the outer diameter, the length and the filament. Outer diameters from 60 to 600 mm and filament from 0.003 to 0.060 in cover most belts — see the nylon conveyor cylinder cleaning brush (PA6.6, PA6.12 available). For washdown food lines, the food-processing nylon roller brush uses FDA PA6.12, and where a driven shaft is needed the steel-shaft nylon conveyor roller brush is built to your diameter and length.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need food-grade PA6.12 for my conveyor?
Use FDA PA6.12 on food, beverage and produce-washing lines where the brush may contact product or operate in washdown. For general industrial conveyors, standard PA6.6 is more economical and performs well.
How do I specify a conveyor roller brush?
Provide the outer diameter, the working length, the shaft/bore and how it mounts, plus the filament material and stiffness. Diameter (60–600 mm) and filament (0.003–0.060 in) are made to order.
