The Scarab Merlin is a single-engine truck-mounted sweeper body: the Merlin 55 is built for 7.5-8.3 t chassis with a 5.5 m3 hopper, the Merlin 62 for 10-16 t chassis with a 6.2 m3 hopper. It sweeps with a trailed channel (gutter) brush and a swivelling widesweep brush; a dual-sweep option adds a second channel brush on the opposite side.

Variants and what to check

Merlin 55 and Merlin 62 share the trailed channel-brush design, and replacement listings show the same disc brooms for 'Magnum & Merlin', but check which plate your arm carries: the listed parts include a 3-hole/295 mm bolt-circle wooden-body broom and a 4-hole/282 mm bolt-circle broom. Dual-sweep machines need a left and a right channel brush. The widesweep is a separate brush whose size is not published; measure the old core and drive ends before ordering. A third-party maker (Sacema) also lists a 4-row 400x100 side brush for Merlin/Magnum/Mistral in PP, steel and PP+steel.

What to send us for a quote

  • Gutter broom: outer diameter across the bristle tips, plate / base diameter and the bolt pattern or quick-change mount.
  • Main broom: overall length, outer diameter and core; for wafer brooms the wafer OD × ID and the drive-pin position.
  • Current fill — poly, flat or crimped steel wire, or a mix — and whether the broom is left- or right-hand.
  • Your machine model (Scarab Merlin) and, if you have it, the OEM part number from the old brush.

Frequently asked questions

How many channel brushes does a Scarab Merlin use?
One as standard. Machines with the dual-sweep option carry a second channel brush on the opposite side, so they need a pair.
Do the Merlin and Magnum share gutter brooms?
Replacement listings show the same disc brooms (Scarab refs 023473 and 023470) for both 'Magnum & Merlin', but compare bolt circle and hole count with your current broom first.
Is the widesweep brush the same as the channel brush?
No. The widesweep is a separate swivelling brush behind the channel brush; its size is not published, so it is made to the measured dimensions of your old brush.
